Prisoner in Red

Oil on canvas

Another foray into challenging myself to use a limited palette to create an image - this time only allowing myself a single shade of red on a black canvas. This kind of painting definitely became a bit of a signature of my style as I progressed. Suggesting the shapes of a person by only painting parts that are lit and letting the blank spaces fill in the rest of the image is certainly economical for paint, but it does challenge me somewhat to make the piece look balanced. I think this one worked out quite well to that end.

This piece lives in my house - selected by my husband to go in our bedroom, paired with this painting.
