At Rest (Aitch)

Feb 2026
400 x 500mm
Oil on Canvas

This marks the second painting in this series (after this piece at the start) to actually be a self portrait. The source photograph was taken at an event, by a friend who had put me in this position himself. I was very, very relaxed, and the photograph captured this beautifully.

I have enjoyed the variety of angles and positions in this series - without a background beyond a black void, it can be hard to place exactly where the subject is - on a floor, stood, lying... This one in particular is quite easy to hang the wrong way up if you don't know the original orientation! The detailing on the bandana against the rougher, softer focus work in the distance really allowed the viewer to focus, much as I did, on the immediate sensations.
