At Rest (Ben)

October 2025
500 x 600mm
Oil on Canvas

This piece is from a photograph I took myself, of my own ropework on a friend. We had been doing some complex and intense suspension rigging together. After getting him back down to earth I put him in this more relaxed tie, on the rug we had been playing over. He got completely relaxed right away and melted a bit in the tie.

Once again, I have painted only the subject - the soft rug he was on is unseen by us, as are the surroundings. He floats in limbo, nothing but the ropes and his own body, held in place and allowed to just... exist. This expression of relaxed subspace is beautiful to me. This painting lives in my house, I see it every day.
