A continuation of the red rope series - Focusing on a new part of the body I've not really painted much before at all. The source photo this was painted from was evry soft, vulnerable. I wanted to convey that same softness in my painting. The shading is a bit more graduated in this piece as a result, with a lot more inbetween tones and colours.

In this one the negative space really claims attention, the rope ends seeming to fly up into nothingness. Focus on the subject and the fact they're restrained is inescapable in this piece. I did keep picking up black paint from the background on the bottom right for use on the subject, and you can see streaks of the colours transferred over. Oddly this only really shows up on camera! In person the background is firmly plain black.
