One of a series of sketch paintings done for a mural at the Lord Clyde, Deptford.
This is the point at which I was seeking something different - the clientele of the Lord Clyde is generally fairly diverse, with a range of ethnicities, ages and body types. I wanted to reflect this in the 'crowd' I was painting on their walls. This led me to a rather gracefully beautiful photograph of the Pakistani-American artist Salman Toor - I loved the pose, the delicacy of it. Given I already had some fairly standard white masculine subjects, this was an excellent balancing piece to add in.
