One of a series of sketch paintings done for a mural at the Lord Clyde, Deptford.
This was the first painting that ended up being used for the mural - I'd already painted one prior in a similar style and wanted to try another subject in the same style. The source was a lot lighter, you could see his face and surroundings. I opted to strip it back to the minimum, leaving who he is and his emotions and motive ambiguous.
