Pencil + acrylic on plywood
This was an experiment, if accidentally. I originally intended to paint this subject. I painted the board black first, aiming to then sketch out the image as usual in pencil and then paint over the pencil in white to get a black and white shaded final piece. However, I got a bit carried away with shading the sketch... I then noticed that the pencil was catching the light from certain angles.
I abandoned the paint stage, and went into more detail with pencil, shading in the image fully as you see above. Unfortunately, it's impossible to catch the way this piece shines in light with a static image. It does make it quite difficult to display too! I have it propped on a tiny easel at just the right angle to catch the sun in the studio at the end of the day!
