This piece was painted from one of my own photographs, from a long past photoshoot for a website. I don't know if this photo ever made it into the final gallery, actually. It was a good basis for this painting at least! People in hoods are, apparently, inherently threatening. I wanted to draw on this whilst subverting it - the figure is hidden in shadow but you can see if you look closer than he's unlikely to be an actual threat. It made for a very ominous painting overall, though again - who's actually vulnerable in this setting, the viewer or the viewed?
