For this piece I was aiming to convey a mood - thoughtfulness, in a peaceful setting. Blue tones are in every part of the painting, imbuing the whole canvas with sense of melancholy. Even the boys skin, exposed only on his face and ankle, are barely tinged with red. The pose from the source photograph really spoke to me, he's very closed and folded in but still has his face exposed to us. Totally inward focused but we can see into the space he's inhabiting and maybe try to find what he is thinking about. I was definitely trying to be more suggestive of detail and form without making the painting itself too detailed.
