Acrylic on a spherical drinks cabinet
This was an unusual project - A friend has acquired a globe-shaped drinks cabinet that was surplus from a work event, but decided he didn't really want it any more. I happened to be at his when he was discussing this, and offered to take it for my own project - to transcribe the map of Arrakis from the 1965 Frank Herbert novel. The introduction of the main villain has him spinning a similar globe of the planet and contemplating it - though I doubt his version had alcohol supplies inside.
I had to make some adjustments to make it work - since the north and south poles have a cap to hold them in the cabinet frame, I shifted all of the geography away from the poles by about10 degrees. If I'd done it accurately, most of the key locations would have been under the cap pieces! The interior I repainted in an incredibly matt black, and the shelf-ring around the edge got the same treatment. I do love my little one-of-a-kind Arrakis!
