This came from me reimagining one of the most famous Hokusai prints - The Great Wave off of Kanagawa. My husband has been a massive fan of the Toho Godzilla movies since he was small, and therefore I've gained quite a lot of love for the series from rewatching them with him. I was struck by the references to the kaiju representing a 'force of nature', which led to both the title of this piece and the idea of replacing (or reinventing) the Great Wave as being the monster!
