Tommy (3 of 5)

Acrylic on plywood

Third in the series, I returned to the unpainted background of the first painting, having found the full painted background of the second one distracting. Of the five paintings, I think this one took the longest from sketch to final paintbrush strokes.

This painting is one of a series all painted on a set of identical plywood boards that were leftover samples from my then-workplace. Each was an attempt to focus on a specific part of the body and figure out how best to paint it. This third painting was focused on the face. I spent... a long time, refining and repainting the features. It was originally painted from a subject but I did not quite manage to get his features right, though he does at least look like A person, if not THAT person.

This painting is in a private collection
